SALT LAKE CITY — Besides being Pioneer Day, former Utah Jazz all-star Karl Malone turned 52 years old on Friday.
It was 30 years ago that, after being drafted by the Jazz, Malone arrived in Utah for the first time. Malone went right from the Salt Lake International Airport to the parade to ride on the Utah Jazz float.
Nobody explained to him what the parade was about, so when he arrived downtown and saw all the people, Malone naturally inquired if the parade was for him.
The next day, Jim Nance took Karl on KSL's Chopper 5 for a tour of the city. It was his first look at what would be his new home for the next two decades.
KSL Sports salutes The Mailman on this day and honors him with the video above.
