February is National Heart Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a healthy-heart challenge? Feb. 3 kicked off Intermountain Healthcare’s 100-Day Heart Challenge. For the next three months, 20 people will focus on their heart health with the help of the staff at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
At check-in, each participant is weighed and his or her body fat measured. A small blood sample is taken to measure total cholesterol, HDL levels, LDL levels and triglycerides. During the 100 days of the challenge, the participants will have access to a personal trainer, a fitness facility, nutrition classes and a cardiologist to help them on their journey to better health.
UVRMC spokesperson Janet Frank said the event is a great opportunity for participants to get the jump-start they need: “Start slow and be consistent and then build on that, so that what they come away with at the end is sustainable so they can take the knowledge and the habits and keep it going.”
