CACHE COUNTY — A man is in the hospital with serious head injuries after his snowmobile crashed into a tree in Logan Canyon, officials said Saturday.
A 40-year-old Utah County man was near the Amazon Trail and Sinks area along Highway 89 when he hit a tree and suffered lacerations to his head, Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki said. He said the man was not wearing a helmet.
First responders were able to quickly reach the man because they were responding to another snowmobile accident towards the summit near Rich County, Stucki said. The man was transported via medical helicopter to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.
"Our officers were already up in the area with the earlier accident," said Stucki. "So they were already on snowmobile patrol in that area. So it was a good, quick response for us."
Officials originally had the man’s age being 41, but confirmed Sunday that he is 40.
The other accident involved a 17-year-old boy who was hit by a car while crossing the road. He only had minor injuries and Stucki confirmed the teen was wearing a helmet.
