LAKE POWELL — The body of a 22-year-old man from Salt Lake City was recovered Thursday afternoon from the Bullfrog Marina area.
Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Alec McQueen was boating with two female friends from his employment at at ARAMARK at Bullfrog Marina when he disappeared, Kane County Sheriff's Office said. One of the women was driving the boat to the dock when McQueen jumped in the water. Initially, the driver saw him in the water just behind the boat, but when she looked back again, she could no longer see him, they said.
The two called 911 after unsuccessfully locating McQueen, the sheriff's office said. A National Park Service ranger arrived, as well as other NPS and Utah State Parks personnel, though the hour of day delayed a dive to the next morning.
Wednesday's search was unsuccessful after the team's sonar malfunctioned and a manual dive of three NPS divers were unable to see. Divers relied on feel during this dive 90 feet underwater.
Summit County Sheriff's Office was called for its sonar equipment and arrived at 4 a.m. Thursday. Teams located McQueen's body at 7:30 a.m. at 113 feet below the water's surface.
McQueen's parents were on scene at the time of recovery and were able to see his body before it was transferred by the sheriff's office.
No further details about the man's death were available.
