WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman was in critical condition Monday after she was hit by a semitrailer truck while crossing the street.
Karen Siler, 58, was crossing the street about 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of Redwood Road and 3500 South when a truck attempting a right turn onto 3500 South hit the woman, who was in a crosswalk and had the right of way, said West Valley City Police Sgt. Mike Powell.
The driver of the semi immediately stopped and ran back to render aid, Powell said. Logan James Bruce, 49, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Siler was taken to a local hospital with serious leg and other injuries, Powell said. She remained in serious condition Monday night but is expected to survive.
