SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are looking for an armed man who stole a car from a dealership Saturday.

At around noon, a salesman at CJ Prestman Auto, 2865 S. State Street, was approached by a man who asked to look at a Lexus ISF, South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matt Budd said.

The salesman was sitting in the car at the time, Budd said, and noticed the man was holding a gun at his side.

The man then told the salesman to get out of the car. The salesman complied, Budd said, and the man drove off.

A witness followed the car to an area near 1300 East and 2700 South, but lost sight of it.

"We don't know exactly where he went from that area, so we have no place to follow up at this time," Budd said. "But we have asked all the other (law enforcement) agencies throughout the valley to keep an eye out for it."

Budd said the Lexus is a silver sedan that has a dealership placards in the front and back where license plates should go.

The thief is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s.

Anyone with information on the location of the vehicle, or the robbery itself, is asked to call South Salt Lake police dispatch at 801-840-4000.
