HELPER — Police have released the names of two men who were found dead in what investigators are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

In a news release, Helper police said that investigators believe Jeromie Bunch, 30, of Helper, walked from his residence to the home of his estranged wife a few blocks away on Bryner Street about 12:45 p.m. Sunday. Once there, they said he confronted James Mitchell, 31, also of Helper, on the back porch and fatally shot him.

According to police, Bunch then fled into a garage on the property where he took his own life.

Bunch's estranged wife had gathered the five children in the home into a room and kept them safe during the incident.
