SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob a Mexican restaurant in the Rose Park area and stabbed a bystander.

Just before 10 p.m. Friday, police believe a man attempted to rob the El Asadero Mexican restaurant at 1011 West North Temple before a bystander attempted to stop the robbery. The suspect stabbed the bystander and left the scene.

The suspect took off on a white mountain bike and was described as being white, about 6-feet tall and having long dirty blonde hair and a hoodie.

"He was last seen in the neighborhood north of North Temple," Lt. Josh Scharman said. "We have K-9 units and search teams in the neighborhood right now out looking for him."

Police are saying the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

The bystander was treated at the scene and listed in critical condition before being transported to the hospital.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
