ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Roanoke College says its women's lacrosse team will forfeit five upcoming games for a hazing incident.

Athletic director Scott Allison tells the Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1awxS16) the incident involved "coerced consumption of alcohol" among athletes. No injuries were reported.

Dean of students Aaron Fetrow says the hazing occurred earlier this month at off-campus residences and was reported to the Salem commonwealth's attorney's office.

In addition to the forfeits, the newspaper reports other sanctions include one-game suspensions for the team's captains and student conduct probation for the team for the next year. Coaches and athletes will undergo anti-hazing training and team members will complete an educational assignment and a group community service project.

Fetrow says it's critical to use the "unjustifiable behavior as a teachable moment for our students, athletes and staff."
