COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina quarterback Connor Mitch has been hospitalized and will miss four-to-six weeks because of a separated shoulder and badly bruised hip.

Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier says Mitch is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days to deal with an infection that developed from a significant hip bruise after South Carolina's win over North Carolina on Sept. 3.

Mitch hurt his right shoulder diving on a fumble in the second quarter in a 26-22 loss to Kentucky on Saturday night.

Perry Orth replaced Mitch against the Wildcats, and Spurrier says he'll get the start when the Gamecocks face No. 7 Georgia this week. Lorenzo Nunez and Michael Scarnecchia will back up Orth.

Mitch missed a few days of practice last week, receiving treatment for his hip bruise.
