WEST VALLEY CITY — A Salt Lake man was arrested over the weekend after police say he shot multiple rounds at another man while a woman and infant child were nearby.
Andy Minh Nhat Vuong, 21, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, three counts of discharging a firearm, two counts of aggravated assault and interfering with an officer.
About 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Vuong fired three to five rounds at another man, striking him twice in the leg, according to a police affidavit.
“During the incident a female and a small child (1-year-old) were present. A bullet struck the vehicle where both the female and infant were (in), narrowly missing both,” the affidavit states.
Police located Vuong about 12 hours later and arrested him after he “fought with officers,” according to the affidavit.
Police also noted that Vuong has a history of “shooting at people and shooting people.”
In 2017, Vuong was involved in a gang-related shooting in the parking lot of the Valley Fair Mall that injured one person. He was convicted of felony discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a restricted person and was sentenced to three to 15 years at the Utah State Prison.
He was released from prison on April 14, according to the Department of Corrections.
