Marc Giauque and Associated Press reportingSalt Lake Police say they'll likely never know what motivated the shooting that left six people, including the shooter, dead at Trolley Square last February.
An investigative summary released by police this afternoon details the evidence gathered by detectives after the shooting on Feb. 12. It provides a time line between when 18-year-old Sulejman Talovic walked into the mall and opened fire. The shooting rampage ended when several police officers fired on the gunman, striking him 15 times and killing him.
The report also details searches of Talovic's car, and of the bedroom in his Salt Lake home, where police found various items such as a library Internet access card, shotgun shells, a gun case and receipts showing where one gun was purchased.
The report also details where each victim was and where they were shot, as well as actions by police officers who responded to the scene.
But the report concludes there's no evidence that the shooting was motivated by religion or terrorism. It says there's no evidence he was under the influence or drugs or alcohol, and it says there was no indication of any kind of mental impairment.
