THISTLE, Utah County — A crash on U.S. 6 temporarily closed the road in both directions on Friday, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Lt. Zach Randall said a Ford F-350 was traveling east when the driver "remembered he had left something at home and attempted to turn around on the two-lane road."

Witnesses told police the truck was in the wrong lane for about 150 feet before colliding head-on with a Chevy Cruze that was in the westbound lane.

"Both swerved off the north side of the road to try and avoid impact," Randall said.

Both occupants of the Chevy Cruze were flown from the scene with "very serious injuries" that Randall described as "possible life-threatening."

The driver of the Ford F-350 wasn't transported.

U.S. 6 was closed for an hour before reopening.
