HOLLADAY -- A major outdoor retailer is expanding in Utah. It is part of a trend the Governor's Office of Economic Development loves to see.
Black Diamond Equipment Inc. already makes numerous outdoor products in Utah. Tuesday, the company announced it will be moving operations of Gregory Mountain Products -- a California company it recently purchased -- to Holladay.
"As governor, I am thrilled to welcome Gregory Mountain Products to Utah," Gov. Gary R. Herbert said in a press release. "Black Diamond is a true Utah treasure, and an integral piece of Utah's outdoor product and recreation industry. We look forward to cultivating a longtime association with the Gregory company as well."
Riley Cutler, who's over the Utah's Outdoor Products and Recreation strategic industry cluster at the Governor's Office of Economic Development, says there are a lot of reasons why Utah is so attractive.
"The outdoor industry show comes here -- that helps. They can go to the canyons, they can go to the mountains, they can ski, [and] they can test all sorts of product here," Cutler says. "There's also a lot of governmental emphasis."
The Black Diamond expansion is expected to add 55 jobs to Utah's economy over the next 10 years.
Just weeks ago, another ski manufacturer-- Hart Ski Corporation -- announced plans to move operations to Ogden.
