SALT LAKE CITY -- A fire in Mapleton that was started by humans early Saturday reached 50 acres by the morning. According to the Mapleton Police Department, officers found that juveniles were allegedly responsible for starting the Maple Fire around midnight on the south end of Fire Break Road above Mapleton. "The origin of the fire is human caused," the police department said. "Mapleton police officers have identified how the fire started and the juvenile(s) that are responsible. There is still more investigating that needs to be done so at this point this is all we are prepared to release." By 2:45 a.m., the police department said the fire had gone up the mountain in the area. "Fire crews are working the south and west flanks, as of now fire is moving away from homes," the police department said. "At this point there are no evacuations in place only an evacuation warning for the homes to the south against the bench." Utah Fire Info released a statement Saturday evening saying that the fire had not grown since the morning. It said the fire was 30% contained. The police department also asked people not to fly drones around the fire.
