SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested after strangling a woman and threatening her with a handgun Wednesday, police said.
Craig Kusmierczyk, 29, was fighting with a woman inside an apartment near 200 East and 300 South at about 1:53 a.m., according to the Salt Lake City Department. Detective Dennis McGowan said it was unclear what their relationship is, but that Kusmierczyk and the woman were cohabitating.
“Police could hear the woman screaming as they approached,” a statement from police reads. “Officers had to force entry and then found the man on top of the female holding her down. Police learned the intoxicated suspect had threatened the woman with a handgun and strangled her to the point of losing consciousness.”
The woman sustained minor injuries during the incident, according to investigators. They said alcohol was a factor in the domestic dispute.
Kusmierczyk was arrested on suspicion of multiple domestic violence offenses, including third degree felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor unlawful detention and public intoxication. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
