BOUNTIFUL — The 500 South interchange with I-15 in Bountiful will close this weekend to facilitate its final conversion and opening as a new Diverging Diamond Interchange next Monday.
The Utah Department of Transportation advises motorists that the interchange will close Saturday, June 13, at 6 p.m. Crews will take the rest of the weekend to conduct final paving and striping, with 500 South expected to reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, June 15.
Motorists should pay close attention to new signs and striping as they negotiate this interchange for the first time.
During the closure, there will be no eastbound or westbound access under I-15, and ramps will be closed. I-15 traffic normally using 500 South should use Redwood Road, 2600 South or Parrish Lane as alternate routes. The Legacy Parkway will also be open to all vehicles during the closure. Local traffic should use 1500 South or 2600 South as alternates.
This weekend, the Union Pacific Railroad will also take advantage of the interchange closure to conduct maintenance work at its 500 South railroad crossing. The closure at the railroad crossing will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday. No traffic will be able to move either east or west past the 500 South crossing during that closure.
An animation detailing the new interchange is available at udot.utah.gov (also seen above).
