SALT LAKE CITY — Emergency crews are on the scene of a fatal accident that has closed 600 South eastbound at West Temple.
Police said a sedan was eastbound on 600 South when it collided with a pickup truck in the intersection of West Temple.
The passenger in the sedan was killed in the accident. The car's driver was critically injured.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. and hours later investigators did not know how the vehicles collided, if they hit head-on or if one vehicle T-boned the other, said Salt Lake police detective Veronica Montoya. One vehicle reportedly hit a light pole after the car accident, but Montoya said she could not confirm that.
Traffic on I-15 was not initially affected. Motorist who usually use the I-15 600 South exit were urged to take 600 North or 1300 South instead.
