SALT LAKE CITY — Here are five local stories you may have missed this weekend. As always, click on the headline to read the full story.

Lagoon's Cannibal delay spurring rumors, frustration

Rumors about Lagoon's newest ride, the Cannibal, are spreading faster than the coaster's expected 70 mph speeds. But most of them are false.

The ride, which has a highly visible tower, is featured on billboards and on the amusement park's season passports. But the opening of the new attraction has been delayed and no one is saying exactly when thrill seekers will be able to plunge into an underground tunnel from a 116-degree "beyond vertical free-fall" and enjoy a 140-foot tall inverted loop.

Fire near Flaming Gorge forces evacuation, closures

Officials say a fire line has been completed and is now surrounding a wildfire burning near Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

The Memorial Fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. As of 9 p.m. it had grown to approximately 75 acres, burning grass and timber in rough terrain about three miles southwest of Dutch John, said Ashley National Forest spokesman Louis Haynes. No injuries were reported.

Baby boy makes debut in McKay-Dee Hospital parking lot

A new little boy just couldn't wait to come into the world.

Mary Burrell and her husband, Brady, were on their way to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden Thursday morning to deliver their fourth baby, but before they could make it to the hospital, Mary gave birth to a baby boy inside their speeding Honda Civic.

Utah mom creates LDS mission prep app

It isn't always easy to get a teenager to prepare for a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but Julianne Muhlestein was determined to help prepare her oldest son, BJ.

Muhlestein tried to think of ways to help prepare him the way she would like, but when BJ came to her for help in completing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, she realized she needed to come up with something that harnessed social interaction and positive peer pressure.

Have You Seen This? The Black Hole water slide

I was never a water park fan, so I don't know if water slides are in or out with the kids these days.

What I do know from commercials is the trend in water parks is to make slides higher, steeper, faster and generally scarier. I'm not sure how it's appealing to experience continually more death-defying slides while only wearing the smallest amount of clothing socially acceptable in public, but here we are.
