SALT LAKE CITY — An antique shop owner says a man walked into her downtown store on Friday and stole about $30,000 worth of jewelry.
Carmen von Bothmer said a couple came into City Creek Antiques, 169 E. Broadway, and asked to look at a painting in the downstairs section of the shop. While she was downstairs with them, she said a man came in, found a key to the jewelry case and emptied several shelves inside.
"It was all fine gold jewelry: 14-, 18-carat (gold), diamonds," Von Bothmer said. In all, she estimates the man took around $30,000 worth of jewelry.
Von Bothmer filed a police report and posted pictures of the man in her shop window. She said this isn't the first time someone has stolen from her shop.
"It's going on and on, and it's getting worse," she said. "People, they steal left and right."

Von Bothmer said she wonders if it's time to close up shop rather than deal with continuing thefts.
"I don't know, to be honest," she said. "I'm thinking about liquidating because it is just too much."
Anyone with information on the theft should contact Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000.
