LAYTON — Two teen girls who police said ran away from a foster home on July 1 were found safe Monday afternoon.
McKenzey Madill, 13, and Alice Mpawehninana, 15, are residents at the New Beginnings foster home in Layton. Both teens ran away during the middle of the night and were reported missing on July 2, according to Layton police.
Madill was located Monday afternoon at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City with a homeless woman who later identified as her mother, police said. Mpawehninana, a member of the Burundi refugee community, was also located Monday in West Valley City walking to an address associated with a family member, police said.
Both were found safe and in good condition and were taken back into state custody.
Madill had previously run away in November 2014 after crawling out of a window of a non-secure facility with another girl. The two were located within a couple days.
