LAS VEGAS (AP) — A nine-vehicle collision in Las Vegas has left one person dead, three seriously injured and one in custody.

Police say a speeding vehicle driven by 32-year-old Kenneth Rankin of Las Vegas ran a red light at an intersection Friday afternoon and struck three vehicles.

Those vehicles then careened into five vehicles stopped at the intersection for a red light.

A 56-year-old Las Vegas woman died after her vehicle was struck in the intersection. Her name wasn't immediately released.

Rankin and his passenger and another motorist were seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

Fifteen other people escaped with either minor or no injuries.

Police say Rankin was booked into jail in absentia for investigation of drug charges and was in police custody at a local hospital.

The 3:15 p.m. accident is under investigation.
