SALT LAKE CITY — Four Democrats vying for the nomination to Utah's 1st Congressional District seat will face off Wednesday in a debate ahead of the primary election on June 23.
The crowded primary field for Utah's new blue-leaning district was whittled down only slightly during the party nominating convention last month, after three candidates — former Rep. Ben McAdams, state Sen. Nate Blouin and Michael Farrell — qualified for the ballot by collecting signatures.
Liban Mohamed won over the delegates during that convention to earn his place on the primary ballot.
The district represents the Democrats' best shot at winning a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in years, after Judge Dianna Gibson adopted a new map to comply with Utah's anti-gerrymandering law known as Proposition 4.
The winner of the Democratic primary will advance to face Republican Riley Owen in the November general election.
