TOWNSHEND, Vt. (AP) — Police say a burst pipe caused the evacuation of an assisted living facility in Vermont on New Year's Eve.
Valley Cares Executive Director Susanne Shapiro in Townshend tells the Brattleboro Reformer (http://bit.ly/1bI41RH) a pipe burst at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and sent about 1,000 gallons of water into an apartment on the second floor.
As water seeped through the walls and dripped onto the first floor, about 40 residents were evacuated. Many were able to return by the end of the night.
Shapiro said she did not yet know the extent of the damage. The pipe burse near where the facility's two buildings meet.
