ROOSEVELT, Utah (AP) -- A Roosevelt police officer has been cleared in the fatal shooting of a burglary suspect last month.
Authorities have said 44-year-old Gary Wheeler was shot Feb. 17 in Duchesne County while still behind the wheel of an allegedly stolen pickup truck after he rammed a police car with it before driving the vehicle toward the officer, who fired at Wheeler.
The Duchesne County attorney's office has cleared officer T.J. Bird in the shooting, saying it was justified.
Wheeler, of Magna, had allegedly burglarized a tire store, which prompted Bird to pursue him in a chase.
