SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Gov. Gary Herbert has designated Mar. 15-19 as Flood Safety Awareness Week.

The program will dovetail with National Flood Safety Awareness Week, occurring at the same time.

The overall goal is to educate Utahns on ways to stay safe during massive floods that can destroy property and pose fatal risks.

Information on the hazards of flooding and safety preparation tips will be available on a number of websites.

The effort is being led by a host of organizations, including the National Weather Service and the American Red Cross.
