WEST VALLEY CITY -- A second driver's license office is now open on Fridays in the Salt Lake Valley, a move that couldn't have come soon enough for the smiling people waiting in line in West Valley City.
Even during lunchtime on Friday, there was plenty of parking and plenty of empty seats in the waiting area at the division office at 2780 W. 4700 South.
Most people were finished -- from walking in the door to leaving with their business done -- in just over half an hour.
One man said that represents a vast improvement over his last experience there. "Last time I was in, I sat for two hours," he said.
The Friday hours in West Valley and in Draper are helping combat long lines on other days, because of a new law that took effect in January. Driver's license renewal can no longer be done online, and people are required to provide more documentation to prove their residency in person.
