SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah Army surgical team is deploying to Afghanistan.

The 934th Forward Surgical Team is a reserve unit based at Fort Douglas.

The 22 soldiers will deploy for one year, assisting other soldiers and providing care.

Capt. Jennifer Ysmael of the U.S. Army said, "My responsibility will be an ICU nurse with this Forward Surgical Team. I know a lot of these people from the past, [and] I'm excited and it will be a very good group to work with."

The team leaves Wednesday for training.
