MILLCREEK — A Midvale woman was arrested Thursday and accused of cutting the brake lines of a vehicle belonging to a couple who have a stalking injunction against her.
Toria Raye Stein, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Thursday for investigation of attempted murder and two counts of stalking.
The victim couple lives in the Mount Aire community in Parleys Canyon. The wife told police that in late February, "she got into her Honda CRV, finding the brake pedal was not working and went straight to the floorboard," a police booking affidavit states.
Fortunately, the vehicle was not being driven. When the woman and her husband had their brakes checked, they "discovered both front brake lines had been intentionally cut," according to the affidavit.
The couple suspected Stein — a woman who has had "incidents" with the husband since 2020 and who the couple currently have a stalking injunction against — was responsible for cutting the brakes, the affidavit states.
Detectives looked at Stein's phone data and learned she was in the Mount Aire community during the time the couple believes the brakes were cut, according to the arrest report. They also obtained a warrant for her internet search history and reported finding searches for, "Where are the brake lines on a car?" and "Did someone cut my brake line?"
"Toria also visited YouTube about a tutorial on how to find car brake lines. On Feb. 8, 2026, Toria searched: 'Is brake fluid flammable?'" the affidavit says.
Stein was arrested Thursday at her home in Midvale. The relationship between the couple and Stein was not disclosed in the court documents.
