WHISTLER -- As a Park City native is bringing home Utah's first Gold Medal from the 2010 Olympic games, and in the process he's made U.S. Olympic history.
Steve Holcomb grew up in and around Park City and played football at Park City High School. He loved ski racing before gravitating to the bobsled. He finished sixth in Torino then had career-saving, radical eye surgery. Tonight he's Utah's golden boy
After breaking the wicked Whistler track record in his first two heats Friday, Holcomb and his "Night Train" team was way up. After a solid third run, the fourth heat was for the gold medal.
Holcomb blistered down, around and through the course, blowing away the Olympic field by almost four-tenths of a second. The team also broke a 62-year drought for the United States, winning the first Olympic 4-man bobsled gold medal since Pat Martin won it in St. Moritz way back in 1948.
He says crossing the finish line and knowing he'd won was an overwhelming experience.
"My entire team and my coaching staff was down there, ready to go. And they were just excited, more excited and pumped up as we were. Our coaching staff was already crying; it was pretty intense. It's been an incredible night so far, and the best is yet to come," he said.
