VANCOUVER -- Wednesday night at Cypress Mountain, Draper's Lacy Schnoor will go for medallion status in the freestyle aerials finals.
The 24-year-old is no overnight success story. It's the result of years of training. But the former Alta High cheerleader has also had to keep a big secret for most of the past year.
Schnoor appears in last month's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
"You know, they actually told me almost a year ago ... I've known for a year, and I didn't tell anybody, really. So I'm psyched it came out. I was a little nervous because I didn't know which pictures they were gonna put in," she said.
Schnoor appears in two pictures. Her family couldn't any more proud -- she's athletic and photogenic, too.
"We were always supportive. She was excited about it, and she's worked so hard for the athleticism, and just this event, so it's fun," her father said.
Her mother said, "I was proud of her. She has a great body. She worked hard for that."
"My family's ecstatic. They're all here supporting me, and I know Utah's behind me. For everyone watching me at home, thanks for all the support. You guys have been great," Schnoor said.
Schnoor says the degree of difficulty of her tricks will land her on the podium if she sticks them Wednesday night.
