SANDY -- You probably don't know Jeff Bordner, but there's a good chance you've heard his voice. The Sandy resident has done voice-over work for movie previews, commercial studios and even network promotional teases.
Recently, he won an audition to be the voice of Animal Planet's popular "Puppy Bowl VI."
Movie studios and advertisers love him, but for Bordner, he's only doing the same thing he's been doing his whole life: talking.

"I love what I do. My work is play," said Bordner from his Sandy home Saturday morning. Bordner is a nationally known voice talent. Basically, it means his voice is in demand.
He's voiced everything from TV promotions to commercials to movie previews.
"Most of what I do is regional and national," said Bordner, "but I do a fair share of local work as well. RC Willey is one place where people might recognize my voice."
You can make a good living doing this kind of work, but it is tough. "I don't know of another business that is this competitive," said Bordner. "I'm very fortunate and I'm very blessed."

He's also excited for this Sunday afternoon. That's when "Puppy Bowl VI" will air on the Animal Planet network. It's an alternative to the NFL Super Bowl for children.
Bordner got the job to voice the game after recently auditioning for it. "I just had a really fun time," he said. "Those guys at Animal Planet are so cool. I'm very excited about it, but I'm also humbled to be with this show."
Much of his work is done in his home studio where he voices and produces. "My commute consists of a cup of coffee and negotiating the steps downstairs in my power suit, which is my bathrobe," laughed Bordner.
Give him any script and he can make it sound happy, mysterious, dark or funny.
"I've learned it's not the voice, it's the performance. You are voice acting. It is acting," said Bordner.
He admits the world of voice-over work is still relatively unknown to most people. "I still go downtown with my wife once in awhile and we'll bump into people," said Bordner. "They'll say ‘Hey Jeff! How are you? Are you still doing that voice-over thing where you do that thing with your voice and you voice things?' They just don't know what it is."
Bordner knows he has a gift, but also says in his line of work, you never know what advertisers are looking for.
"Every type of voice brings with it some kind of positive thing, some kind of hook that advertisers are looking for. Whether it's comedic or intense, or whether it's just a regular guy," said Bordner.
He has done voice-over work for NBC, CBS, the FX Network and even the International Olympic Committee, to name just a few.
