WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) -- Hospital officials say a man shot in a restaurant parking lot last month by West Valley City police has died.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported on its Web site Wednesday that an Intermountain Medical Center spokesman says 39-year-old Travis Paul Johnson died Tuesday.

Johnson was shot in a Burger King parking lot Jan. 27. Police allege Johnson hit an officer with his car as he tried to drive away from police.

West Valley City police Capt. Tom McLachlan says three plainclothes officers were monitoring an alleged drug deal between people in two cars at the restaurant before the shooting.

McLachlan has said one officer fired at Johnson because he thought the other officer's life was in danger when the car ran over the officer's foot.

Four people were arrested in connection with the incident.
