LAYTON -- A slow water leak eventually led to a power outage at the Layton Hills Mall.

The power was knocked out throughout most of the mall around 11 p.m. Sunday night and wasn't fully restored until 4:15 p.m. Monday.

The mall has remained closed all day, except for JCPenney and Macy's.

A leak in a main water line just outside the Food Court doors slowly created a 10-foot deep sinkhole that swallowed a transformer and the concrete slab it was sitting on.

Crews had to bring in a crane to pull out the transformer and were able to reuse the concrete slab to reset the transformer.
