OGDEN -- A lack of funds forced the Weber County Jail to cut 100 beds and 25 positions.
The Utah Sheriff's Association tells the Standard-Examiner it's concerned other jails may have to do the same if the state does not pick up the tab for "condition of probation" inmates.
Up until this fiscal year, the state has paid half the cost associated with housing inmates that could have been sentenced to the state prison but are sent to county jails instead.
Now the state only pays a fourth of the cost.
