Press Release

Providence, UT (February 23, 2007) - Macey's will hold a grand opening for its new, expanded grocery store on Monday, February 26 at 10:30 a.m. at 50 North, Highway 165 in Providence, just south of the old location. A fireworks show will also take place at 7 p.m. on the same day.

The new Macey's store features amazing displays of fresh produce including an expansive organic line, "from-scratch" breads and other hot-from-the-oven bakery goods. Wonderful displays of fresh-caught seafood and meat will greet guests year-round. Also, Macey's new delicatessen offers an impressive array of meal solutions and a cheese area that rivals any in the state. In addition, guests will benefit from a drive-through pharmacy and an in-store America First Credit Union.

The ribbon-cutting and fireworks will officially commemorate the store opening and guests can enjoy giveaways and sampling throughout the store. Guests are encouraged to enter to win many prizes including a Ski-doo Summit 550 snowmobile sponsored by Fat Boy Ice Cream. (The snowmobile will be given away on Saturday, March 17.) Other prizes include a video iPod, $250 gift certificates, a mountain bike and a two-minute Western Family shopping spree.

"We are excited about this new store," said Rich Parkinson, president, Macey's Supermarket, Inc. "As always, we have kept our guests as the top priority and hope our friends in Cache Valley will enjoy the new store with its many enhancements."

One already-popular enhancement is Macey's Fuel Rewards. Macey's and Flying J, two Utah-based companies, have partnered to allow grocery transactions to earn valuable rewards that can be applied to gasoline or diesel purchases saving Cache Valley shoppers up to 35 cents per gallon.

The new store is over 83,000-square feet and is the flagship store in the new Alder Square. (Alder Square will be named after the Seth Alder family, the previous landowner.) The store was constructed as part of the 16-acre first phase in the Alder Square development consisting of approximately 140,000 square-feet of retail space. The second phase will add an additional 14 acres totaling approximately 150,000-square-feet of retail space when complete.

"It is a pleasure to be part of something that is so beneficial to the community," said Blaine Butterworth, Macey's store leader. "Macey's is committed to Cache Valley and we are confident our focus on fresh products and grocery values will continue to be a valuable asset to our friends and neighbors."

The multi-million dollar site is being developed by Associated Food Stores, Inc. and Amsource Companies, of Salt Lake City, Utah. Phase two of the plan will include 14-acres of additional retail tenant sites offering plenty of parking and landscaping to blend with the community's needs.

Macey's currently operates ten locations in the communities of Providence, Ogden, Clearfield, West Jordan, Sandy, Tooele, Spanish Fork, Pleasant Grove, Orem and Provo. In 1947, Walt Macey and Dale A. Jones started the "Save-A-Nickel-Market" in Rosepark, Utah. "Macey's" grew from this small store into a multi-store chain by providing personalized service and genuine old-fashioned friendliness. Now locally-owned by Associated Food Stores, Macey's will benefit from the cooperative buying power of nearly 500 stores in eight western states.

Macey's has been a part of Cache Valley since 1970 and the new store marks its fourth location as the store has grown with the community.

Additional parties that contributed to the new Macey's include Associated Food Stores, R&O Construction as general contractor, Prescott Muir Architects as lead architect and PEPG Engineering as civil engineers.
