ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A homeless shelter in St. George is battling an infestation of bedbugs.

Dixie Care and Share Executive Director Kara Coop says she's spent thousands trying to exterminate the pests.

She says the shelter has bought new mattresses four or five times and does treatments continuously. She says the only cure for the problem will be a new facility coupled with precautions to keep the bedbugs out.

Coop says it takes only one person who has been at a place with bedbugs to start the cycle over again.

A customer specialist at pest control company Orkin says bed bugs can be found in mattresses, behind headboards and sometimes behind picture frames.

People can also transport bedbugs on their clothes.
