SALT LAKE CITY -- News of the attack on Pope Benedict stunned Utahns who attended services Thursday night at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. KSL News talked with many of them after their Vigil Mass.

"I'm shocked! I can't believe that on such a religious time, that someone would do that," Linda Marrufo said.

"I can't imagine someone that holy, and someone that gives so much, and something like that can happen to him," said Rob McIntyre.

"You just wonder why she did it," Doug Payne said. I hope it was in reverence, you know? That she was hoping for a blessing or something like that and not something where she was trying to hurt him."

The Cathedral of the Madeleine will host its Mass at Midnight.
