(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The Utah Senate has confirmed one judicial appointment but held off on another -- that of Washington County Attorney Eric Ludlow as a fifth District judge. And that is due to complaints by an anti-polygamy activist.
The Senate yesterday unanimously confirmed Scott M. Hadley, who has been a court commissioner, as a judge in the second District.
But members of the Senate's Judicial Confirmation Committee said they needed time to look into an allegation that Ludlow misled them by saying his office had not received complaints about underage girls becoming the wives of polygamists in Hildale.
Activist Troy Bowles said during the confirmation committee's hearing earlier this month that Ludlow, as a prosecutor, had turned a blind eye to the issue of child brides.
