PARK CITY -- Some children from Wasatch and Summit counties got to "Shop with a Cop" at Walmart on Saturday morning.
Children rode with officers to the store, sirens and all. The kids then made their way through the store, picking out presents for themselves and their families.
Organizers anticipated this year's program, and its $100 shopping spree for each child at Walmart, would provide a central part of many families Christmas.
"I know Park City, when they first started doing this, the goal was 60 kids. I believe they have 90 this year, so need has gone up," said Wasatch County Sheriff Todd Bonner.
While Santa arrived by LifeFlight, the ‘Shop with a Cop' program also needed an emergency rescue. With 20 percent more children this year, officers were short a few thousand dollars just a few days ago.
At the last minute, donors came forward and helped make up the difference. The end result was big eyes and big smiles as kids and their personal shoppers helped get a little something for family members on their list.
"It's just a real fun event to rub shoulders with these great kids and other law enforcement," Bonner said. "It's just a real good time all the way around."
