SANDY -- Sandy police say alert neighbors helped them catch up with three suspects in a number of burglaries.
Sgt. Steve Christensen said it started when someone reported a stolen car near 8200 South and 560 East early Tuesday morning.
While police were investigating that call, they got another call across town to 1514 E. Buttercup Dr., where someone was trying to break into a house.
"We responded up to this area, where we located our stolen vehicle," Christensen said, "and another vehicle that appeared to be involved. They appeared to breaking into vehicles in this area of town."
Police arrested two men after a short foot chase. Another man, who was sitting in a waiting SUV, also was arrested.
"It's great to return property to the original owners and get these guys before they were able to make victims of anybody else," Christensen said.
Police say they found drug paraphernalia, stolen property and other evidence in the vehicles.
Thirty-year-old Luis Antonio Espitia Figueroa, 31-year-old Andres Garcia and 31-year-old Leonel Vargas were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on vehicle burglary, vehicle theft and attempted residential burglary charges.
