(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson, who is seeking re-election, has announced he will NOT be participating in Alliance for Unity meetings for a while because of the election.

The Alliance was formed in 2001 by Anderson and industrialist Jon Huntsman. The 18-member group seeks to make peace among differing religious and ethnic groups.

Anderson says he doesn't want that work to get all tangled up in the politics of the campaign -- so he's sitting the meetings out until the election. He said he'll likely miss two or three of the group's gatherings.
