WEST JORDAN -- A sentence of 15 years to life in prison was handed down Wednesday to a West Jordan man convicted of shooting and killing his girlfriend.
Parley Dutson was 19 in 2007 when he shot and killed 15-year-old Kara Hopkins after she refused to have sex with him at a party.
He was convicted of first-degree felony murder, but that conviction was later thrown out and a new trial was granted.
Dutson reached a plea deal with prosecutors before the second trial began.
