(KSL News) When shooting started at Trolley Square, the shops and restaurants were full of people. We spoke to several witnesses, who told us what they saw and heard during their horrifying experience.

Witness: "I heard the gun shot, and then I saw the security guards run off, and then I heard a couple more shots."

Witness: "We thought that just a pan had dropped the first two shots, and so we were like, ‘why is everybody freaking out?,' and then we heard more shots—pop, pop, pop, pop, pop--there was at least like 30 to 40 shots."

Witness: "As soon as that happened people just started running and food was kinda flying in the restaurant. A lot of chaos and I just heard this bang, bang, bang, bang, and it was just kinda random shots going on."

Witness: "We said to the owner of the store, ‘Lock the doors, lock the doors,' and she did, and she turned the lights off so it looked like the store was closed."

Teralie Watson, Witness: "We just went into a barricaded closet by ourselves, and we just locked ourselves in there."

Jason Watson, Witness: "We barricaded ourselves in a room and called 9-1-1. They told us to stay there, and so we finally called again, and when we called we heard the police come in, and they escorted us out and scared the crap out of us."

John Donham, Witness: "I don't know how many was shot, but I know he was in there killing."

Witness: "It's what we saw.... it's what we saw.... Three dead bodies."

Matt Lund, Witness: "I heard the policeman yell, ‘drop your weapon, police, drop your weapon!', and then we heard a lot of gunshots."

Witness: "It's just very scary, you're trying to protect your kids from physical harm and emotional harm, and it's just very scary."

Beth Graham, Witness: "No, we ran to the back, we just heard the guns, the shots, and then we just ran."

Clifton Black, Witness: "It was really just scary. I wanted to get out of there."

Barrett Dodds, Witness, Store Owner: "I heard what I thought was gunshots... Went out the door, looked over the edge saw a guy downstairs with a gun to his shoulder taking shots. So I turned and told the people get inside, take cover, lock up. "

Witness: "Went down the hall and told all the stores I could to get inside and lock up, there was someone shooting up the place."

Wally Dodds: "The one word that comes to my mind is arrogant. He was just strolling. He isn't playing Rambo. He's just strolling like he's got nothing better to do."

Those who witnessed the killings can be just as much of a victim as those who were wounded. As we mentioned earlier, officials encourage witnesses to talk to someone.
