(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Relatives of a little girl found in a downtown motel room with the body of her dead mother are starting to come forward.

Hotel workers found the three-year old in the Super 8 Motel room Monday with her mother who had been dead for at least a day.

The little girl thought her mother was sleeping.

So far, a grandmother and an uncle have come forward claiming to know the girl.

The state's Division of Child and Family Services is screening them to see if they're able to take care of the little girl.

The girl is in a shelter for now, but a doctor gave her a clean bill of health.

Her mother will undergo an autopsy, but police believe she died of natural causes.
