FINAL Fourth Quarter

FINAL SCORE

1:57 Fourth Quarter

1:57 Fourth Quarter
(18) BYU 38, Air Force 21

Max Hall this quarter became the Mountain West Conference's all-time passing yardage leader, moving ahead of John Beck with a completion to Andrew George. Hall also picked up his fifth touchdown pass of the day with another toss to Andrew George. Say what you want about the two picks, generally Hall has looked very sharp today against a solid pass defense. It's a good warm-up to the Utah game. Air Force just scored on a Savier Stephens 4 yard run. The Falcons also got a two-point conversion to make it 38-21. Points in garbage time. What can you say. Cougars just have to be sound on the onside attempts.

5:23 Fourth Quarter
(18) BYU 38, Air Force 13

12:40 Fourth Quarter
(18) BYU 31, Air Force 13

BYU has 3 turnovers in the last 3 possessions and is making it easy for some sort of a comeback for the Falcons. Max has two picks and a fumble this is sloppy football in a game when BYU was up 24.

14:18 Fourth Quarter
(18) BYU 31, Air Force 13

Never say die Falcons. They just keep playing hard all day. Expect nothing less from the Air Force Academy. BYU's defense quietly has put together a great effort overall in this game! 4th & 2 from the 3 yard line and something's got to give. AF TD and the Falcons are on the board again.....missed two-point conversion. 31-13 BYU

4:50 Third Quarter
(18) BYU 31, Air Force 7

That was odd. BYU just had a touchdown called back for unsportsmanlike conduct-attempt to deceive, whatever that means. Max Hall was lined up, moved away from the ball (walked away) and it was a direct snap to Harvey Unga. Greg says it looked similar to a play BYU used against Utah last year. Strange call. I would have thought it was legal. BYU subsequently got it back to a 4th and 2 and went for it near the endzone. A pass from Hall was intercepted by Air Force after Andrew George ran the wrong route. Air Force is on the move, but still trailing big.

Third Quarter
(18) BYU 31, Air Force 7

The offense is just cruising along here for BYU. When Max Hall, Dennis Pitta, & Harvey Unga are making plays the Cougars look like a completely different team. With the UTES pounding SDSU 38-0 up on the HILL next weeks game looks like it could be a beauty!.....Max close to 300 yards and on his way to becoming the leader in wins for BYU QB"s......

13:24 Third Quarter
(18) BYU 31, Air Force 7

That's the way you start a second half. BYU recovers an Air Force fumble. Max Hall gets a long completion to McKay Jacobson, then a 10 yard scoring strike to O'Neill Chambers on a slant route. BYU is rolling at 31-7. BYU has owned Air Force -- especially in recent years -- but I don't know if the broadcast crew was even expecting a game like this. Max Hall has looked very sharp. That last touchdown pass was his fourth of the game. He now has 88 career touchdown passes. Much was made of the AFA pass defense, which came in ranked first in the country in pass defense and 10th in pass efficiency defense. The Cougars have shredded it. On the other side of the ball, the BYU defense has mostly done a good job of limiting Falcons fullback Jared Tew. Cougar defenders have blown up the option time after time and it doesn't help that Tim Jefferson was knocked out of this one. Ben Cochran came into this year as the third string quarterback for Air Force. He has a touchdown pass and a pick, but it's a definite downgrade at QB for Air Force.

HALFTIME Second Quarter
(18) BYU 24, Air Force 7

3:14 Second Quarter
(18) BYU 24, Air Force 7

9 YD Touchdown Pass from Hall to Luke Ashworth. The Academy Answers with a TD pass of their own. 24-7. The first Air Force pass completion of the day and its a good one.

3:17 Second Quarter
(18) BYU 24, Air Force 7

5:00 Second Quarter
(18) BYU 24, Air Force 0

10:00 Second Quarter
(18) BYU 17, Air Force 0

Continued strong play by the offense. Dennis Pitta and Max Hall combining for two TD's. The Defense is also doing the job shutting out the Falcons!

5:19 Second Quarter
(18) BYU 17, Air Force 0

17 Yd Touchdown Pass From Hall to Dennis Pitta, their second TD connection in as many drives. All this after a big Andrew Rich Interception.

13:57 Second Quarter
(18) BYU 10, Air Force 0

End 1st Quarter First Quarter
(18) BYU 3, Air Force 0

BYU has looked good offensively, Max Hall with 15 pass attempts in the first quarter, but only 3 points to show for it. 12-15, 103 yards for Hall.....Harvey breaks Curtis Brown's yardage record as BYU's all-time leading rusher.....

First Quarter
(18) BYU 3, Air Force 0

Two Very impressive drives for the Cougars stopped short of a Touchdown by a penalty on the first drive and the second drive ends with a Mitch Payne career-long 48 YD Field Goal to put the Cougars up by 3. Harvey Unga now 3 yards away from becoming the BYU all-time leading rusher.

11:00 First Quarter
(18) BYU 0, Air Force 0

BYU has the ball to open the game and promptly marches down the field and puts the ball into the end only to be denied on a pass interference "away" from the actual TD catch....A 47 Yard FG attempt is blocked and the Cougars are shutout on drive #1.....The Defense comes up big and stops the Falcons on their opening drive and so round 2 on offense for the Cougars is coming up.....
