(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The air down here is unhealthy. That's what the Division of Air Quality says.
Salt Lake, Davis, Utah and Cache counties are all under a red burn condition for the seventh day in a row. That means burning wood or coal unless it's the home's primary source of heat is forbidden.
A high-pressure atmospheric system is sealing the cold, polluted air of the valleys under a blanket of warm air, causing unhealthy air in downtown Salt Lake, Provo, and Logan. Folks with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should avoid outdoor activity. Everyone else should avoid prolonged exertion outside.
Alpine School District has canceled outdoor recess for children. And Utah County's other two school districts are leaving it up to their principals.
