CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- An inmate at a southern Utah correctional facility who authorities say tried to escape by fashioning a fake bomb has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison in the case.
Steven Douglas Crutcher in September pleaded guilty to first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping. Other charges against him were dismissed.
The 28-year-old was sentenced in 5th District Court on Monday.
The Iron County sheriff's office has said Crutcher threatened officers at the county correctional facility with what he claimed was a bomb on June 29.
Authorities said deputies tackled Crutcher, who allegedly threatened to blow up himself and anything around him if he wasn't released.
A bomb squad found the device was made from toilet paper rolls, headphone wires and a pencil eraser.
Crutcher was originally in jail on theft charges.
