PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Provo man has been charged with one count of third-degree felony abuse or neglect of a disabled child after authorities say he didn't take action to help a dying 7-month-old boy.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that 40-year-old Alec Nicolaysen appeared Monday in 4th District Court.

Provo police say he was babysitting the boy while his parents went shopping on Oct. 31.

Court papers say that when the parents returned, Nicolaysen was holding the boy, who was blue and limp.

Court documents say Nicolaysen told police he saw the baby start turning blue and called the mother but he did not call 911 or give CPR.

The boy's mother told police the child had a heart condition and required oxygen. The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A message left by The Associated Press for Nicolaysen's attorney was not immediately returned.
