LEHI, Utah (AP) -- Students who have been working with Utah Highway Patrol troopers to learn how to be safer when driving will get a chance to put their skills to the test.
On Friday, high school students from the program -- which emphasizes seat belt use -- will get a chance to drive police cruisers on the Department of Public Safety's emergency vehicle operations track in Lehi.
There will be lots of safety gear for the students. Trooper Cameron Roden says the Crown Victorias are equipped with five-point harnesses and have good tires. The student drivers will wear helmets.
Troopers will teach such driving skills as evasive maneuvers to avoid crashes.
